Module #5 Discussion Board: Share a Non-Experimental Design Article

1111 unread replies.1111 replies.

Our Module #5 written work is similar to our Module #4 written work.  But this time the goal is to fully and deeply understand  the differences between Experimental and Non-Experimental Research!! :-)

For our Module #5 Discussion we want to learn more about "Non-experimental designs".

For this Discussion Board you will not be able to see other posts until you post your own. :-)

NOTE: Please follow the instructions below to find the type of article I am asking you to find.  Finding your article will likely take considerable time and effort.  Along the way you will learn about research articles--that's good!  Carefully choose your article.  I know it's a lot of work. But, you CAN use the same article for both the Discussion Board and the Psychology Exploration Project for Module #5!  :-)

Module #5 Original Discussion Board instructions and grading criteria.

Instructions for: Share a "Non-experimental Design" article

For this discussion board I am asking you to find a peer reviewed published psychology article from a scientific journal which is about a "Non-experimental Design" study.  After carefully studying our Module #5 course materials, search out and choose a non-experimental design article. Finding your article will likely take considerable time and effort; plan accordingly.  But keep in mind that you CAN use the same article for our Module #5 Discussion Board and our Module #5 Psychology Exploration Project.

Your Discussion Post should answer the following 6 questions about your non-experimental design psychology journal article.   No need to be in essay form.  Just list each number 1-6 and respond. DO NOT CUT & PASTE.  Answer in your own words as if explaining to a cousin in middle school.  :-)

Hint: Log into the Chabot Library and click on “Databases,” this may be along the top tab.

(See the Chabot Library webpage for updated and current instructions for logging into the Chabot Library databases from off campus.)  :-)

Next, click on “Academic Search Complete

Then enter your search terms.  You might choose a topic you are interested in then browse articles until you find an "non-experimental Design".

It might take some considerable time and effort to find your non-experimental design article.  Keep in mind that you CAN use the same article for our Module #5 Discussion Board and our Module #5 Psychology Exploration Project.

Hint: You can also use Google Scholar but your article choices will be more limited.  The Chabot library pays lots of dollars to gain you access to more articles.  :-)

Hint: I recommend that you give yourself about an hour or two to find, browse, and choose Experimental design article.  There are hundreds of professional journal articles in the field of psychology, accessible through the Chabot library, which satisfy these criteria. Please take your time in choosing your article.  Another hint: you might consider using a non-experimental design term in your search to help find a non-experimental design. ;-)

  1. What is the title of your psychological  journal article? When was it written? What journal was it in?
  2. Describe, as if you were explaining to a cousin in middle school, how the study was done and what they found.  Say a little about the participants, the research design and procedures, and the results.  Feel free to summarize and simplify and be conversational in your explanation.  :-)
  3. Describe the ways in which your article meets the criteria for a non-experimental Design; Rely on our Module #5 course materials for help with this.
  4. What was fun, surprising, or interesting about finding and reading your journal article?
  5. Did you respond to 1-4 writng as if you were explaining this information to a cousin in middle school?  (Yes or No)  *should be yes.  :-)
  6. Please post replies to at least two classmates’ posts.   :-)
