DISCUSSION 1 (TAMEKA) Define transformational leadership. Transformational leaders motivate their followers in a way that makes them do extraordinary things. I would consider Dr. Martin Luther King as a great example of a transformational leader. “Transformational leadership is often regarded as the leadership style that is most effective in building team morale and high follower performance” (Waglay et al, 2020, p. 1). Dr. King was able to motivate his followers in such a way that they would march in the hundreds of thousands to promote change. These leaders challenge the time to look beyond their interests and look toward the greater good of the group. ` Describe the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership roles. Being emotionally intelligent means being able to control your emotions. Most people who are emotionally intelligent are very aware of their emotions and the emotions of others. They tend to have a lot of empathy when dealing with subordinate issues. Emotionally intelligent leaders have “The ability to perceive accurately, appraise, and express emotion; the ability to access and/or generate feelings when they facilitate thought; the ability to understand emotion and emotional knowledge; and the ability to regulate emotions to promote emotional and intellectual growth” (Waglay et al, 2020, p. 1). These leaders can solve issues quickly and at the lowest level. Explore the methods transformational leaders use to create collaborative and communicative teams. There are many methods that transformational leaders use to create collaborative and communicative teams. Many transformational leaders use inspiration and influence. There are four different methods used which include idealized influence, inspiration motivation, individual consideration, and intellectual stimulation. Identify solutions to combat employee burnout and turnover rates. Having a great work-life balance is one way to combat employee burnout and turnover rates. One thing I have learned is to not take work home with me. It can be a hard task depending on what kind of job you have but you need to have a cut-off switch. I have a personal phone and a government phone, and I put that government phone on silent as soon as I get home. I do not bring my government laptop home with me because I know I will get on it and do some work. I talked with my coworkers and told them not to call or text me after six if it is work-related unless there is an emergency. You have to set boundaries or people will expect you to work well after you have gotten off. “Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation and mindful breathing, ensure enough sleep, a balanced diet, and adequate exercise” (Wei et al, 2020, p. 5). Self-care is very important and one of the simplest ways to combat burnout. Management can combat turnover rates by ensuring the workload for employees is not too heavy.
