Blog: Substance Abuse in Your Community

One of the advantages of online learning is the diverse experiences of the students in the classroom. With colleagues across the globe, the perspectives of substance use, addiction, and treatment options are often very different. A key aspect of addiction treatment is to stay aware of current trends in substances of abuse and process addictions. 

To prepare for this Blog:

• Consider trends in substance use and addiction within your community. 
• Look for a local news story that address substance use and trends

Post responses to the following items in your blog:

• Provide a link (or photo) to the story.
• Where is your community? (i.e., nation, state, city) (Liberty Township, Youngstown, Ohio)
• What is a current trend/issue for substance abuse in your community?
• What are the neurobiological effects, psychological effects, and addictive properties of the misused substance?
