You need to visit these websites and answer the questions.Lab 1:  Visit this web site.  http://fnic.nal.usda.gov/  Select 3 of the Spotlights and visit each of them.  Provide a summary paragraph of  what type of information is provided in each of those you select and how you can use the information you found there. Lab 2:  Use the Babycenter Company online address (www.babycenter.com) to obtain a recommendation about preconceptual nutrition. Evaluate their consumer advice with the science presented in this chapter or in the literature. Record the search terms you used to gather the information in both the scientific literature and the online website. Which of the terms that you used are ones that you think a consumer might use? Lab 3:  Visit the American Diabetes Association website at www.diabetes.org.  What guidelines do they promote for women with type 1 diabetes who are planning a pregnancy? What are some indications that a woman might develop gestational diabetes? Lab 4 :  PeriStats is an interactive database developed by The March of Dimes and provides perinatal statistics at national and state levels. Many government data base sources were used. The online address is http://www.marchofdimes.com/peristats/Peristats.aspx.  This will provide you a direct link to the PeriStats Interactive Perinatal Data Resource as well as links to federal and state perinatal statistics.  Select two states and identify their current infant mortality rate. Why do you think they are different or why are they similar? Lab 5:  The text states "any advice that strays from current scientifically based wisdom about nutritional needs of women during pregnancy should be side-stepped." Visit the International Food Information Council's brochure on "Healthy Eating During Pregnancy:"  http://www.foodinsight.org/Resources/Detail.aspx?topic=Healthy_Eating_During_Pregnancy. Compare the brochure recommendations to the recommendations given for multifetal pregnancies. Would you be able to use the brochure with a woman sustaining a multifetal pregnancy? Why or why not? Can you find the evidence underlying the recommendations in the brochure? Which are common sense recommendations? Which have research to support them?
