Instructions Evidenced-Based Practice (EBP) is the conscientious use of current best evidence in making clinical decisions about patient care, integrating the best available research data with clinical expertise and patient preferences and circumstances. For this project, you will analyze a clinical question pertaining to a specific nursing practice by conducting a systematic search of the literature for current knowledge, analyzing available evidence that supports the policy, and planning a process for changing nursing practice in your organization as indicated. Formulate a clinical question in PICOT format. Systematically review the literature to answer the question. Include practice guidelines, other systematic reviews, and evidence analyses. Analyze studies found in the literature to determine strength of evidence. Use a level of evidence taxonomy of your choice for the analysis. Critically appraise the evidence for validity, reliability, and applicability. Determine whether a change in practice is indicated.  Using change theory or a model of organizational change, formulate a plan for changing practice protocols in your organization.

Evidence-Based Practice Protocol:  This Evidence-Based Practice Protocol requires investigation of an area of Evidence Based Practice for its scientific roots.  Research, clinical inquiry, and critical thinking will be critically examined as a basis for the selected nursing practice.  Each protocol should be evaluated in order to determine which portions of the protocol are based on research versus tradition or expert opinion, and evidence-based recommendations are to be made for protocol improvement.  Further information and instructions can be found in the grading rubric document specifically for this type of activity.
