Reaction paper: You will submit YOUR PERSONAL, SUBJECTIVE, & REFLECTIVE REACTION to any particular topic that you have read in the textbook and/or that we have discussed in our discussion forums, up to the due date of the paper.  THIS IS NOT A RESEARCH PAPER.  This assignment allows you the opportunity for you to reflect on a topic, consider how the readings or class discussion relates to your life, and discuss any personal reactions/questions that come up for you. It is expected that you will reflect critically and thoughtfully in these entries – for example, you should be processing your own experiences, challenging your assumptions or values, and/or exploring new ideas and concepts.

NOTE:  THIS ASSIGNMENT IS COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL.   ONLY THE INSTRUCTOR WILL BE READING THIS ASSIGNMENT… HOWEVER ONLY SHARE WHAT YOU ARE COMFORTABLE SHARING.

Suggestions on what to include in your Reaction Paper:

1. Your personal thoughts as to why you picked the topic you are reflecting on.

2. Your reaction to the readings from the text with criticism when valid.

3. Share your personal “feelings” and thoughts that capture your views on the topic.

4. Feel free to critically reflect upon something of concern to you regarding the topic you chose in a self-observational, personal manner.

Note: Reaction papers should demonstrate some or all of the suggestions listed above.

Reaction papers are informal papers and will be graded based on the following:

1.  Student demonstrates command and understanding of the subject matter he/she is reflecting upon.

2.  Timeliness: Papers must be posted on the due date.  Late papers will not be accepted.

3. Length of paper: Each reaction paper needs to be at least one page and no more than 1.5 full pages – double spaced with 1 inch margins at top and bottom with a size 12 font.

4. Papers must include your personal thoughts and feelings that express your ideas (again, see above under “suggestions on what to include in your reaction paper”).
