"The largest expense for a healthcare company is labor (FTE) so that is usually the focus when looking to improve financial performance. The actual cost of the FTE is much higher than the salary since there are benefits that can be as high as 50% of the salary. So a person could have a salary of $50,000 but also have a cost for benefits of $25,000 so the total is $75,000. So if 10 FTEs are eliminated that is a savings of $750,000. More financial information would be helpful but you can make assumptions (using numbers) based on what you know from the case and create some estimations."
