You will be writing a review of 2-3 pages, APA formatted, including a title page.  Be sure to consider literacy needs of struggling readers in your classroom. Provide a rationale for your diagnostic impressions using criteria from the Star Sheets, which are included in the packet, also other educational journal sources to support your answers. The goal is to present, in writing, the basis for your diagnostic impressions.

This assignment will help you determine that special education case law is the driving force behind the services offered students with disabilities.  You are to create a timeline of 10 special education laws/revision and explain the major provisions of each with at least a 150-word paragraph, using the provided template.  Present your finding in this table format.  Focus on the laws, not the course cases.  For example, No Child Left Behind is an example of a law.  Do not quote from the source. Instead, summarize and paraphrase. Your timeline must have scholarly citations in APA format for each law you list. One portion of an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) is writing goals for students to master within the year of the IEP.  For this assignment, you will practice writing goals for a student with a disability, based on the present level of performance given to you.  This would be the same thing you would have to do as a special educator receiving a new student on your case load.  Review the sample Present Level of Performance (PLO) on Jackson in the Reading & Study folder of Module/Week 3.  This is the type of information you would be given on a student from an eligibility meeting, where the assessment team would compile their results and determine the disability.  Write four goals based on this information, two for reading and two for written language in the attached template.  You are strongly advised to study the Goals and Objectives presentation in Module/Week 3 to help with samples and formatting, following the A, B, C, D of writing goals/objectives.  This information will be used in the IEP assignment in Module/Week 4.  APA formatting will be used, including a title page.

Assignment Differentiated Lesson Plan

Lesson planning is a routine activity for teachers in classrooms, focusing on the topic to be taught.  At the same time, the focus also needs to be on the students being taught. For this assignment you will determine a mock classroom, including students with a variety of disabilities. You will use the provided lesson plan template to complete your plans.  The assignment will include a tiered content lesson plan showing differentiation of your teaching for three groupings of students in your classroom.  The three groupings in your class will include struggling students/students with disabilities, average students, and high achievers/gifted.  Using Bloom’s Taxonomy as your guide (see the Taxonomy is the Reading and Study folder in Week 8), you can use the first two levels for your struggling learners, the second two levels for your average students, and the highest two levels for your high achievers/gifted.
