The PMBOK® Guide (PMI, 2017) featured the project lifecycle continuum with the Predictive (aka Waterfall) and the adaptive Agile lifecycle approaches at opposing ends of the spectrum as illustrated in Figure X3-1. Although popular in software development projects for many years, emergent trends in project management evidence a growing adoption of the Agile project management methodology in a broad range of industries.
Should the Waterfall approach be replaced in its entirety by the Agile project management methodology?
