How anti-virus software worksAbstract This paper talks about how anti-virus software works. Anti-virus software are becoming more sophisticated as new viruses are constantly released that challenge the current anti-virus software. The main function of the anti-virus software is detection. It detects the infected file and takes time to repair it. It faces one difficulty that generic virus detection is inadequate for current and new viruses, and so anti-virus software must be constantly updated with new lists of viruses. Whenever a new virus is detected, its samples are sent to virus analysis centres and these centres analyze the virus, and extract a unique string from the virus that will identify it. Then they add the information in the databases which users can download
