Myra, whom is the owner of UMUC haircuts needs our help in order to stay competitive and aggressive in a changing environment. Myra needs to accommodate her clients in a way that is seamless and a way that makes it easier for people to come to UMUC haircuts. I will present what we believe fits best for UMUC haircuts to really help thrive and help with scheduling clients and employees. Five Forces AnalysisFORCEEXPLANATION(Minimum 2 good sentences)IMPACT (POSITIVE, NEGATIVE, or NEUTRAL)AFFECT STRATEGY? (YES/NO)BUYER POWERUMUC haircuts needs to not only bring in a scheduling system but also an inventory control system to keep everything organized and automatically order supplies when there running low. Also, Myra needs to keep higher end color and hair products to set apart from others.neutralnoSUPPLIER POWERBuyer power can affect the products of UMUC haircuts but it will help if they are ordering a lot of products from one supplier and UMUC haircuts can develop a relationship with the supplier.negativeyesTHREAT OF SUBSTITUTE PRODUCTS OR SERVICESWhen putting the new scheduling system in it will set apart UMUC haircuts from the other competitors. Also, having the latest and greatest products and services will keep us ahead as well.THREAT OF NEW ENTRANTSOf course you will always have competition with businesses but that just means we will have to be ahead of the curve and have a system that will schedule employees and the clients in a way that is seamless to the owner, Myra as well as the clients and employees. -Implementing a system of scheduling clients on our website that will send text/emails/calls to them after scheduling to follow up and send reminders will absolutely organize things and have a very personal experience with the consumers as well. Positive/negativeyesRIVALRY AMONG EXISTING COMPETITORS-Have to make every customers experience interesting and different so they can go and spread our new systems and the way UMUC haircuts now works with the new systems.- keep everything fresh, new, and up with the new trends and styles. Emailing customers when new things arrive in the salon from products to new hair colors. UMUC can also email out coupons and raffles to get customers intrigued to try and/or come back to UMUC haircuts.positiveyesJustification of selected strategy for competitive advantageMyra’s selected strategy, cost leadership strategy because it is very business smart and it also benefits the consumer as well. A good example is Wal-Mart, they use low prices to attract customers but still have great products as well. Myra will do the same with UMUC haircuts, she will carry higher end products at a reasonable rate to attract clients and keep everyone happy.Buyer power will help with keeping inventory in track and keep costs low from not having to worry about inventory going missing or ordering too much of a product that is not sellingSupplier power may have a little bit of impact on cost leadership strategy since we will not be able to control that. If we build a good relationship with the supplier it could be okay but we will always have to watch and keep checking the quality of the products. This could negatively affect this or not affect cost leadership strategy. Threat of substitute products or services may not help cost leadership strategy since in this case you have to spend money to make money but in the end it will pay off and will have repeat customers and recurring revenue.Threat of new entrants will again be not very cost efficient in the beginning but this part of the five forces will bring in revenue after spending the money, it is a good investment and will have the business thriving and make it a seamless experience for the consumer.Rivalry among existing competitors, after the new system is up and running this will be good for cost leadership strategy. It will bring new and existing clients in with promotions and keep up with technology this way. Business process Employee and customer scheduling is related to cost leadership strategy because it is going to help the business cut costs in a lot of areas. One it may reduce payroll because you are getting a system to schedule for you instead of a manager or supervisor to do that job. Also, it will schedule appointments for customers on the website so you have the option to have a receptionist making appointments or only having a receptionist part time.Technology is a beautiful thing because it makes our lives much easier and helps with everyday tasks where we can focus on other things. I work in a technological company so it is easy for me to adjust to technology changes but it can be hard for people who are use to the “old” way. For example, some people like to write in a planner instead of putting their to-do lists on an app or in their calendar on their smartphone. After people adapt there is no turning back and they become reliant on that service or it becomes an everyday ritual for them. References Scilly, M. (2015).
