Assignment 1- in 300 wordFor each law or issue selected, write an example of a HR policy that shows compliance with the laws or acts discussedLaw we stectedWe wanted to write about three certain laws. The first is the Equal Opportunity Act of 1972. Secondly is the Age and Discrimination in Employment in 1978 and the Drug Testing.DQ-180 wordWatch "Choice, Happiness, and Spaghetti Sauce." Response-80 wordAfter reviewing the video, I found Malcolm Gladwells argument of nature of choice and happiness to be very educational. The story of how the spaghetti sauce was changed by one mans idea of trying to please each individual person, instead of everyone was eye opening. It's the simplistic things like spaghetti that make people happy and by giving them choices, it can in return lead to the success of a brand like Prego. The main thing that I found interesting about Malcolm's speech was that he pointed out that people will never give the response you might need, it's being able to provide them with something they never thought they needed.Q-180 wordWatch "The Art of Choosing."Response-80 wordThe speaker Sheena Iyengar gave some great examples of choice and cultural differences. The first story of the green tea episode and sugar in Japan highlighted how companies in the United States strive to serve the consumer and how companies in Japan strive to protect the consumer. Choice in America was seen as the ability to show individuality in product and services. Choice in Japan was a way to create harmony and community by referring the choice to elders who were trusted and respected. This concept of choice n America brings about a list of assumptions associated with choice. The assumptions of make your own choices and more choices are better resonate different meanings in various cultures. The revelations of multiple choices in different cultures was apparent in the example of offering a drink to eastern bloc participants in a study Mrs. Iyengar was conducting. The variety of drink choices was acknowledged by the recipient to be one choice, soda or no soda. The American consumer sees each brand representing a specific taste in soda. The assumptions associated with choice in America have a positive spin yet can make the consumer feel some levels of anxiety associated with the power of choice. As Mrs. Iyengar so graciously pointed out, the power of choice is limited in cultures that acknowledge the anxiety of choice associated with the consumer.Response-80 wordWhen speaking of tradition and custom, my feeling is this on that regard, when you are in Rome do as the Romans do. But when you are in my house, tradition notwithstanding, past the sugar please. The speaker made a point, when she acknowledged the custom of the country she was in, but she boldly stated "she uses sugar in her tea. Now as a sidebar, have you ever tried to drink tea without sugar, believe me it is an acquired taste. Traditions are what they are, and they stand for something that is known or maybe something that is forgotten. But is not it true traditions are subject to change, if not now then maybe in the future. I guess it was tradition for just about every body to have turkey with the Thanksgiving meal, at least that was the way of my house. But I got married and my feelings change towards the selection for Thanksgiving dinner. And because of the situation changed and is standing in the family changed, well instead of the bird, fish became the center of attention for the occasion. Having said that the choice still remains, to have tea with no sugar or coffee with enough sugar to sweeten the brew. An excellent, thought-provoking post!DQ-180 wordWatch "Marketing Strategies."Response-80 wordThe video "What is Marketing? The Basics and Beyond" did a great job of applying marketing to real world scenarios. First, the video attempted to define marketing with the statement "Marketing is the management process that identifies, anticipates, and supplies customer requirements efficiently and profitably." The definition laid the ground work for how the 4 P's of product, price, place, and promotion, play in establishing how a business goes about the marketing process. Each part of the marketing definition is found in the efforts of marketed orientation, analyzing the market, researching the market, and formulating marketing strategies. The four P's of marketing help define the why behind the needs of market orientation, analyzing, researching and strategies. All of these actions of marketing help a business achieve the primary goal of any business: to turn a profit. The video provides examples of selling umbrellas in the desert or changing strategies to meet customer needs by selling seasonal items such as Christmas trees to help make the definition of marketing come to life. The concepts of marketing are explained in segments during the video to help gain a full understanding of the marketing picture.
