Elements:Line, Shape, Form, Mass, Volume,Space, Color, Texture, Value, Time and Motion.
Principles:Balance,Contrast, Emphasis, Movement, Pattern, Repetition, Proportion, Scale,Rhythm, Variety, and Unity.
3.Use Formal Analysis below to critique the artwork.

Step 3:Interpretation—make inferences about the meaning of the work. Use information from your description & analysis to support your conclusion (It answers the question, "What is the artist trying to say? What is going on in the picture”)
Questions to ask to help with this step: What do you think the artist is trying to say in this artwork? What does it mean? What is the main theme or idea behind this piece? If you were inside this artwork, what would you be feeling/ thinking? What is the mood? Does the artwork have a narrative (tell a story)? Is it a religious artwork? Is it abstract? Is it representational? Why? How would you explain this artwork to someone else? Evidence: What evidence inside or outside the artwork supports your interpretation?
Step 4: Evaluation/Judgement (What do I think about this artwork? How do I feel about whether the artist was successful in conveying an idea? ) Based upon what you have observed already, give your opinion of the artwork. You MUST give reason. Here are questions you might consider: 1. Why do you think that this work has intrinsic value or worth? What is the value that you find in the work(s)? (For example, it is a beautiful work of art, conveys an important social message, affects the way that I see the world, makes insightful connections, reaffirms a religious belief, etc.) 2. Do you think that the work(s) has a benefit for others? Do you find that the work communicates an idea, feeling or principle that would have value for others? 3. What kind of an effect do you think the work could have for others? 4. Does the work lack value or worth? Why do you think this is so? Could the reason you find the work lacking comes from a poor use of the elements of art? Is the subject matter unappealing, unimaginative, or repulsive?
