What care-giving practices would you advise parents of a newborn

What care-giving practices would you advise parents of a newborn use that are the most important to help create a strong social bond with their infant?  In terms of infant and toddler  child care what kind of child care practices would you use to promote healthy infant socioemotional development if you were caring for an infant as a family member in the home (grandparent, aunt, uncle), family child care or center child care setting? What would be the most important characteristic of a infant or toddler child care environment that you would tell a parent to look for as it relates to any component of socioemotional development?
