Final Project – Part 1

Planning Phase

Type your responses into this document.  Make sure your answers are clearly written with no spelling or grammatical errors.  Also, make sure your responses are given in a font color or altered font size to clearly distinguish your inputs for each set of questions.  Worth 2% of final grade.

1.            What questions will you explore/answer with your project?  Be as detailed as possible.  Avoid using yes/no questions, and instead phrase them as descriptive, relational, or causal questions.  Descriptive questions are used primarily to describe the existence of some thing or process.  Relational questions are designed to look at the relationships between two or more variables.  Causal questions are used to determine whether one or more variables causes or affects one or more outcome variables. (20 points)

2.            What data resources are you going to use for your project?Do some preliminary exploring for your data.  Check out websites used in past Required Tasks, websites listed under Content > Course Resources > GIS on the Web, websites mentioned in your textbook, and internet searches.  Do not purchase data for this project – only use free resources.  List the websites and file types you plan to use. (20 points)

3.            How will you prepare your data?  Will any of the files need to be converted?  Will you need to define a projection or reproject a data set?  Will you need to edit your metadata?  Will you need to georeference an image?  Do you plan on digitizing a new layer/dataset? (15 points)

4.            What ArcGIS tools will you use for your analysis and why? Joins and relates?  Queries?  Spatial join?  Buffer tool?  ModelBuilder?  List any tools you anticipate using and explain why. (15 points)

5.            How do you plan to visually present your data?Will you make one or more maps?  What formatting techniques do you plan to use (i.e. graduated colors, multiple data frames, etc)?  You are required to export your ArcGIS Pro map(s) to JPG format.  (15 points)

6.            Write a prediction as to the results of your questions in #1.  What do you expect to see/learn when your project is finished? (15 points)
