A. Session Objective

The objective of this session is to explore new and emerging developments in IT acquisition management. Technology and new management practices are changing IT acquisition management. Many factors are involved, including cloud computing, IT portfolio management, outsourcing in different forms, wireless communications, handheld devices, special agents (software robots), nanotechnology, and demands for privacy protections and information security.

As you view this video ask yourself these questions:

1. Do you consider yourself an innovator?

2. Who is being innovative at your organization?

3. What does the innovation look like and when does it occur?

4. Are external firms tapped as sources of innovation?

5. Do your executives view your IT component as a source of innovation?

C. Individual Assignment

Select one area of emerging technology or management practice that is affecting or will affect IT acquisition management. Perform online research on this subject. Seek sources that are likely to be unbiased as well as informed. Be wary of disguised sales pitches in the form of White Papers. Summarize the results of your research findings and post your summary as a Response in the Session 12 discussion question conference. (Maximum of one screen in length.) In your posting, provide two URLs for web sites on your selected area that you found especially interesting.

Post your response no later than the end date of this Session. Read the responses of your classmates after they have posted them and post substantive comments on two or more of them.
