STATISTICS 203-You are a nurse working on an oncology
1. You are a nurse working on an oncology unit and you are interested in examining ?-leucocyte count (x 109/L) in 51 patients with colorectal cancer and 19 healthy controls. The cancer patients were also classified into Duke’s classification (2, 3, 4) for colorectal cancer that gives you a guide to the risk, following surgery, of the cancer coming back or spreading to other parts of the body. An additional category (5) identified patients with the disease that had not been completely resected, and category (1) was used to indicate healthy individuals. You have collected the data and entered it into an Excel data file called CANCER.xlsx. Import this data file into SPSS and answer the following questions.
a. Assuming ?=0.05, do these data provide sufficient evidence to indicate that, on the average, ?-leucocyte counts differ among the five patient categories? Provide the p-value for the test you have performed.
b. Use the Tukey procedure to test for significant differences between individual pairs of sample means. Which pairs, if any, show statistically significant differences?
