George Washington University SEC5 Harappa and Mohenjo Daro Exam Questions

Can you write 2 pages or one page and half (double spaced) times roman 12 font, choosing one of the questions either a or b in each section that you prefer to answer and you think you have enough understanding to explain it in details. Please I want the essay to be as detailed as possible answering the requirments. attached are the references, please use only those if you found anything outside if it doesn't contradictit, it is ok you can use them. No citation needed. I am also going to upload more files just in case you might find answers there.

Section 4

a. Writing is found in a number of early societies but it emerged in different contexts in different places. Illustrate this with three places that we discussed in class where ancient writing has been found. Briefly, in each place, how was the earliest writing used (that is, what was writing developed to do)? Is it the same or different in all three places? If it is the same, what does that suggest was the shared problem writing was developed to solve? If it is different, does that suggest there is no overlap in why writing emerged? Then, for one area which lacks writing (or at least readable or indigenous writing), give an example of something that might be changed in our understanding of that society if it did have writing—what might we know that we didn’t before? Please be specific in your answer.

OR

b. People have been building big stuff for a very long time, and yet monumental architecture is on Childe’s list of criteria for complex societies. Why does this make sense? What is it about monumental architecture in the way he meant it that makes it relevant to complex societies? Please describe three different places where monumental architecture is clearly seen in Childe’s sense, using a specific site in each case to illustrate your answer. How exactly does each of these sites indicate a complex society?

Section 5

Okay, I lied, you don’t have a choice here but there are lots of different ways to answer this question so it’s kinda like you do. Please evaluate the use of Childe’s criteria in terms of understanding the similarities and differences between ancient complex societies in the areas we discussed. Is this list a useful way to compare these areas or are there too many differences to make it helpful (it’s okay, I won’t take it personally if you think this isn’t useful, as long as you support your answer with evidence!)? In your answer, you should talk about three of the places we talked about, and one of them has to be Europe, the Indus Valley, OR Cahokia; the other two are up to you. You should also use at least two of Childe’s criteria to illustrate your answer, but you can’t use writing or monumental architecture since those were in the previous question (show some versatility). Do the similarities and differences tell us anything interesting, and if so, what specifically do they tell us? If comparing similarities and differences isn’t a useful approach, what exactly do you think is wrong with it?
