Comparing Means

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to apply knowledge of data analysis and interpretation by comparing several independent means and their resulting post hoc analysis in SPSS. ANOVA is a test that can do this. This includes proper result reporting in the form of a paper with output from SPSS and appropriate tables included.

Course Outcomes

This assignment provides documentation of student ability to meet the following course outcomes:

CO2: Apply advanced quantitative biostatistical procedures and qualitative biostatistical procedures to relevant public health data sets to identify associations between causative factors and outcomes.

CO4: Analyze the results from statistical computing packages reporting results accurately and within context to the given public health data sets.

Requirements

The Comparing Means assignment will be graded on accurately comparing means using a specified data source. In addition to this, students are expected to analyze the results of the data, correctly report this information, and speak of the significance of their findings in terms of public health. The quality of self-assessment, use of citations, use of Standard English grammar, sentence structure, and overall organization based on the required components as summarized in the directions and grading criteria/rubric will be evaluated.

Create your product using Microsoft Word, which is the required format for this assignment. Place output from SPSS into this word document as an appendix.

Preparing the Assignment

Comparing means allows us to look at independent groups and compare their means. This could be the means of different treatment groups or different populations.

You will compare means between independent groups and run appropriate post hoc analysis for this assignment using the data set provided to you.

The variables you will consider are diet and weight of three different groups.

Complete a post hoc analysis and report on this as well.

You will include a narrative that includes possible hypotheses and null hypotheses, an explanation of the relationship between the variables, and report the important results in APA format.
