What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger

In order to understand how our organ systems work together, we must first understand the structure of the tissues that make up our organs. The term histology refers to the microscopic study of tissues.

In this module, we will be learning about the largest organ system of the body, the integumentary system. Our integumentary system is made up of the skin and its accessory organs. Among other things, the skin protects us against pathogenic organisms, chemicals, and the harmful effects of sunlight.

Part A: Existing Knowledge

After watching this video, address the first question based on your thoughts and supported by research. Include with your post the research references in APA style format. Post your reply by Tuesday. After posting, begin your textbook reading to complete Part B and Part C.

Question #1: What are your thoughts on sun exposure? What are the benefits and disadvantages? Do you believe the amount of exposure affects these benefits and disadvantages? Have you or someone you know ever experienced a sunburn or skin injury from tanning or sun exposure? Your response must be at least 5 sentences in length.

Part B: Applying What You Learned

For the second part of the discussion, you will apply what you have learned from the course textbook reading assignment in this module. By Thursday, create and post two separate well-crafted and well-researched questions for your classmates to answer. Each question must include at least 5 sentences of background information before your classmate questions are asked. You must start each question post with the heading “CLASSMATE QUESTION."

Part C: Research and Respond

For the last part of the discussion, you will research and respond to two of your classmates' questions. Each response must include at least 5 sentences of well-researched information from a resource other than the course textbook.
