As a citizen, one rarely thinks that when called upon to do your civic duty, part of that duty might be to decide whether someone lives or dies. The weight is heavy. Because the responsibility is so important, the capital jury has faced intense scrutiny from scientists and the courts. As you read, keep in mind that jurors and those that choose them are subject to human fallibility. The question is whether this fallibility is problematic to death penalty cases, how, and whether any issues caused by these inherent weaknesses can be corrected.
