 Discuss the rise of “Negro” businesses and their impact upon the Black resistance to white supremacist ideologies. What type of businesses developed and what was their impact on Black community development; particularly that of all black towns such as Mound Bayou, Mississippi? How does Marcus Garvey speak directly to Black resistance and the ideal of self-help and Black pride?  In what ways was Garvey a symbol of Black pride and empowerment and how did Black people respond to him as well as key Black leaders such as W.E.B.
