Week 1 Discussion
DQ1 APPROACHING THE HUMANITIES
How is studying the humanities beneficial to you as a person and as a professional? Why does thinking and writing about history require a different approach than we're accustomed to? What are some of the conventions (the rules and expectations) of thinking and writing about history?
Use key details from the lesson and reading for this week to help support your response.
In addition, here are some extra resources to get you started.

DQ2 EARLY EASTERN MORAL SYSTEMS
The Chinese moral order (much like that of the Greeks) "depended not upon divine decree or authority, but instead upon the people's own right actions" (Sayre, 2016, p. 106). Please discuss the development of China's religious texts from Chapter 3: Empire: Urban Life and Imperial Majesty in Rome, China, and India. What were the main ideals expressed in these texts?
As part of your response, consider the development of Hinduism and Buddhism in India from Chapter 3. Were these religions based upon divine decree or on people's own actions? What were some of the important premises of Indian religions?
Be sure to provide specific examples from the reading to help develop your response (and use the flipbook below to point you in the right direction!).
