Decision Making: Care Coordination
A 21-year-old patient is admitted to the ED with a possible thoracic spine injury resulting from a motor vehicle accident. He and his friends were racing on the freeway when he collided with another vehicle and flipped over. He is very angry, crying and reporting severe pain. When you walk into the treatment room, you find his girlfriend yelling at him for being "stupid" and crying hysterically. His father and his mother are on their way as they want to accompany him. They come from another city and are expected to arrive in about 3 hours.
