Collaborative Performance Improvement Discussion
The Scenario
You have scheduled a meeting with an employee who continually
submits incomplete reports after the weekly deadline. This is an
otherwise good employee with whom you have had a couple of
brief, informal conversations over the last month about the late
and incorrect reports. The problem has not been corrected and
continues to have a negative effect on the overall productivity of
your department. You have decided that it is now time to have a
serious discussion about this employee's need to improve. You
want to use a collaborative approach with the employee to arrive
at a mutually agreeable resolution of the performance issue.
Assignment
Using Bolton's six-step collaboration model, prepare some brief
notes for a collaborative meeting with your employee. Include
examples of the types of things you will say during the meeting
and identify the skills you will need to use throughout the meeting
to achieve your goal.
