Assume the role of career counselor within an organization. A member of your workplace is in a quandary about whether or not he should apply for an opening in another department. The individual comes to you with this problem related to a future career choice. Use your knowledge of the basics of Industrial/Organizational Psychology to select reflections, tests, and opportunities that might help you to guide the worker and inform your recommendations for this worker.

Include the following “elements” in your response to the discussion board:

Create a profile of the worker. It is up to you to be creative as you choose the traits to build this “character.” What is the worker’s “story”? What and why is this move interesting to the person?

Now, define the department that the person is currently working in and the department to which the person is thinking about switching. For example, is the person part of the administrative team and now wants to switch to design? Or maybe the person is a graphic designer and wants to move into a more administrative level. The scenario is up to you to create, but must be a change that requires a significant change for the individual.

Think about how you might do a biopsychosocial analysis of the person that would help identify the costs and benefits of applying for the position. Identify questions that you might ask to help you understand the person and to help the person understand the costs and benefits of making the application. Summarize what the analysis tells you about this hypothetical employee, and how your hypothetical employee would respond to your questions.

Finally, based on the previous steps create and present a plan to help this worker decide whether to stay in the current position or move to the new department. Support your recommendations with evidence based on your reading or research.

While you are writing about your personal experience, the analysis of the experience should include references to the course material and any outside sources that you find to be appropriate.
