Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 10 in the Smith (2013) Wiley CIO: Straight to the Top: CIO Leadership in a Mobile, Social, and Cloud-Based World e-book; read the articles by Groysberg, Kelly, and MacDonald (2011), Nolan and McFarlan, (2005), and Schiller (2011); and watch the Pepperdine University (2011) video “The Role of the CIO” With Harvey R. Outline the primary responsibilities of today’s CIOs based on the required sources for this week and information gathered from previous weeks in the course. Discuss the future trends of the CIO role by addressing the following four areas.

Explain the elements of the CIO role you believe will become more important for successful CIOs in global IT organizations.

Evaluate the elements and/or responsibilities of today’s CIO role, and analyze those elements or responsibilities you believe will fade away in the future.

Forecast the leadership competencies that enterprise CIOs of the future will be more reliant upon, and justify your statements including support from your resources.

Predict the changes to the CIO role you believe will occur over the next 5 to 10 years, and justify your reasoning for the changes providing support from your resources.
