Statistical Procedures

In Pallant (2020) complete 11, 12, 13, 14, & 15. Note you will need to use different files for these analyses so please read the instructions carefully.  Do not construct Table 1 on page 202, as this is not one of the procedures.

All additional exercises require a written analysis that should be included at the end of your word/RTF file. When available utilize templates for presenting statistics “Presenting the Results” boxes found in Pallant (2020).

For credit to be given, all SPSS output from chapter procedures and additional exercises must be exported and included in the word document.

You are a chief financial officer and are curious if there is a correlation between net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds.  You have access to financial data from 40 acute care hospitals in the United States.

Utilize data from 2017

Research Question:  Is there a relationship between net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds in 40 acute care hospitals in the United States?

Hypotheses:

H1: There is a relationship between net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds in 40 acute care hospitals in the United States.

H0: There is not a relationship between net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds in 40 acute care hospitals in the United States.

For this assignment:

Gather the  net income, total employees, total overhead costs, total salaries and total staffed beds of all 40 acute care hospitals and place the data in the excel codebook in the Data Recorded Tab. You will need to filter data as you did in N755PE to assure you have the correct data for the analysis.

If needed, recode categorical (nominal) data as you learned in N755PE prior to entering the spreadsheet into SPSS for analysis. 

Enter the excel spreadsheet into SPSS.  Make sure you label variables (Pallant Chapter 4) in SPSS according to the metadata tab.

Typically, at this point you would run normality statistics, but for this assignment we will assume data is normally distributed and meet the assumptions for a parametric test.

Run a Pearson Correlation on the data.

Write up the analysis using the template presented in your textbook.  Each relationship should be written separately. Tables of results will not be considered a written analysis. 

At the end of the analysis, answer the research question and accept or reject the null hypothesis.

Make sure analyses are APA formatted and that you are following APA rounding rules.
