Ethical concerns are important, particularly in reference to planning, conducting, and evaluating research. A study should present minimal risk to participants especially risks that pertain to experimental treatment or exposure to physical or psychological harm.  Care should be taken to ensure that the participants fully understand the nature of the study and the fact that participation is voluntary. Please review the ASU IRB handbook for specific guidelines regarding the protection human subjects. 

In this assignment provide a 2-3-page APA formatted paper that discusses the procedures you will use in your DNP project to for the protect the participants.  Discuss the informed consenting process you will use or the rationale for not providing informed consent to your participants.  Discuss your plan for assuring the identity of your participants is protected. If you have any current or future power over the participants discuss your plans for the use of a proxy.  Discuss how the data will be de-identified, securely stored and eventually destroyed.

Final Project

Instructions:

The final project will require you to provide a draft of the data collection portion of Section II of the DNP project paper template.  Remember this section of the DNP project should be the recipe for replication and will become invaluable when you are ready to fill out your ASU IRB application.

In an 5-6-page APA formatted paper provide the processes you will utilize for collecting data in your DNP project.  The information should clearly describe the “who, what, when, where, and how” of the process. If the sampling units in your project are human subjects, the process from consenting to final data collection need to be described in excruciating detail. If your sampling units are non-human, for example patient records, the techniques of collecting and managing the collected data need to be delineated and defended. For example, the process of retrieving data from paper or electronic records is described and related to the problem, purpose of the project, and research question(s). The data elements for the data you retrieved from paper or electronic records should be clearly defined and justified.

If you are completing an intervention, the intervention should be thoroughly described and provide the “who, what, when, where, and how” of the process.  Students completing educational interventions should provide learning objectives and content outlines as appendices.  Students completing practice changes should provide a timeline and description of the steps in the practice change as appendices.

Information for gaining entry to project sites and how approval will be obtained to collect data needs to be provided.  The procedure for informing and consenting all potential subjects must be discussed in detail. Permissions from all sites must be discussed in detail, including how permission was obtained and who granted it.  Reasons are provided for the particular method of data collection that has been selected. It must be clear how the data will be protected and eventually destroyed once it is gathered. All permissions, recruitment letters, communications with participants, copy of survey instruments and consent forms should be included as appendices.
