Abstract A Computer network is formed by interconnecting many computers. There are many types of networks which are classified as per their characteristics. Few networks which are classified as per scale are; LAN: Local Area Network, WAN: Wide Area Network, Metropolitan area network and Area network. Computer networks can also be classified according to the hardware and software technology that is used to interconnect the individual devices in the network, such as Optical fiber, Ethernet, Wireless LAN, HomePNA, or Power line communication. Further, computer networks are also classified as per functional relationships that exist between the elements of network.
