Q-200 wordExplain the difference between nursing knowledge, nursing skills, and nursing attitudes (KSAs). How can evidenced-based practice and quality improvement measures affect your patient care practices? Please make an initial post by midweek, and respond to at least two other student's posts with substantial details that demonstrate an understanding of the concepts, and critical thinking. Remember that your posts must exhibit appropriate writing mechanics including using proper language, cordiality, and proper grammar and punctuation. If you refer to any outside sources or reference materials be sure to provide proper attribution and/or citation.Resonse-90 wordIn order to prepare future nurses to gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) needed to maintain a safe and improved healthcare system, the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) was developed by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) (Alfaro-LeFevre, 2012). Six core competencies were developed and one of them is the Evidence-based Practice (EBP). According to QSEN Institute, EBP is to integrate evidence with expertise and patient preferences in order to deliver optimal patient care (2014). It is imperative that future nurses are taught the importance of EBP by gaining knowledge, skills, and attitudes.Nursing knowledge: Students must be taught how to demonstrate knowledge of basic scientific methods and processes (QSEN Institute, 2014). It is important that students know how to locate, read, and understand EBD.Nursing Skills: In order for students to obtain skills, they must participate effectively in appropriate data collection and other research activities (QSEN Institute, 2014). Students can practice by reading original research and evidence reports and relating it to the area of practice.Nursing Attitudes: Students must be taught to acknowledge strengths and weaknesses of scientific evidence to determine best clinical practice (QSEN Institute, 2014).I believe that by applying EBP in to my practice, I will be able to deliver better safety and care to clients. It is important that I keep up with the most updated medical research findings in order to have the desired patient outcome. ReferencesAlfaro-LeFevre, R. (2012). This includes the patients values, the communication, physical comfort, emotional support, involvement in decision making, comprehension of pain and suffering, patient safety and understanding barriers.Nursing Skills is the ability to elicit patient values, preference, their expressed needs, communicating values, provide sensitivity, assess their pain, comfort them, relive pain, remove barriers due to diversity, assess conflict and establish boundaries.Nursing Attitudes is the ability to see through the patients eyes, respects values, seek learning opportunities. recognize attitudes of patients and their diversity, patient expectations, value their partnership, their preference and respects their rights, acknowledge tension, and value your own improvement of communication.Evidence based practice means to integrate current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preference and values for diversity of optimal health care.Quality Improvement is using data to monitor the outcomes of care and use improvement methods to design and test changes to continuously improve the quality and safety of health care. After reading the charts on the QSEN Institute for KSA I formed a clearer understanding of how all the categories come together. Knowing how to communicate with a patient is one thing, but incorporating the communication, along with your skills and the proper attitude will be very important in the medical field.
