Response-60 wordWhile one may think that allowing a foreign country or business take an ownership of stock in a US based company or the United States is bad, it really does create a unique balance for America and its businesses.  Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) are actually good for the United States for a couple of reasons.  The first reason is that FDI improves, “the current account of the host country’s balance of payments” (Hill, 2013, p. 268).  This means that foreign countries such as Japan can support the U.S. market from facilities within the America.  Additionally, FDI allows a Multinational Enterprise to use their foreign subsidiary to increase their exported goods (Hill, 2013, p. 268).  Another reason that FDIs are good for America is because FDIs increase the amount of capital for the United States (Ott, 2002).  This results in a rise in labor productivity and the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), such as higher wages and more employment (Ott, 2002).  So, yes, foreign investment is good for the American economy. When it comes to the biggest holders of U.S. government debt, China reigns in at number 3, the Federal Reserve is the second highest, with the Social Security Trust Funds toppling both of them (CNBC LLC, 2015).  While this shows America is in an okay position, it does and certainly has been raising a significant concern over the Social Security Fund and whether or not it will survive the future of the United States. As far as the national security goes, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) was established in 1975 to monitor and protect national security by governing foreign deals to prevent the loss of sensitive technologies, significant outsourcing, or critical infrastructure impairment (Council on Foreign Relations, 2014).  So as long as the government appointed committee continues to do as expected, then there shouldn’t be any problems.DougReferences:CNBC LLC. Why do I want to launch this product? Thinking about the why is known as the inside out concept of thinking.  Most companies think about "what" they want to provide, how to do it, and then why are they doing it.  "Why" does matter in which descending order this process is implemented.  Simon Sinek states "It has to do with parts of our brain that engages when the communication is processed". Basically we learn in the order that we are taught.  Showing consumers why your product exists can draw a close connection with the consumer.  This type of connection is likely to have consumers follow you or your company and follow the belief in your company versus the product that is being offered.  Getting to the emotional side, which could be your companies mission statement.  Then you should be able to present the "how's" and the "what's" of the company.  Inspiring brands communicate from the inside out.Response-80 wordAs I watch the video of Simon Sinek it reminded me that I had seen it before in a previous class. I really enjoyed it and applied the concept to my business just how he explained it although I had already implemented my own way around the purpose of my work. When I was a teenager I though I was bad selling and I had no future in marketing, and look at me know, even I am impressed of how far I have come to be more knowledgeable about what I enjoy doing soo much. In my experience as a retails manager in a Spa 13 years ago I noticed that I started getting inside the meaning of why the products and services we sold there where good and necessary for everyone. It was amazing working with people who you could see the transformation of when they first walked in to when they left. It tough me that "people don't buy what you do, but by why you do it" as per Simon mentioned.I have always thought that teaching the customer the meaning and value of the product or service you sell or provide lets them see what you see about it and give value to it. Sometimes it does not matter how expensive something can be or how cheap it is, if you believe in it and know why it will work then with confidence your customer will buy it. Q-200 wordConsider your company, or one you have worked for previously. Based on Marketing Myopia, by Levitt, is the company marketing myopic? Why? Why not? Your answer is not complete if you do not respond in terms of Levitt. The article is one of this week’s readings.Q-180 wordWatch "Nielson: Observing and Predicting Consumer Behavior." Response-80 wordIn the video on Nielson, the first thing that struck me was that the company was involved in much more than television ratings. I had only heard of the company based on the viewer ratings for television shows. The most important concept that came out of the video for me was that companies can do all the market research they want, but understanding the information is the key. The speaker in the video talked about getting a "360 degree view of the customer." This view is contrived of the time the consumer walks into the store to after the purchase when an individual could turn to social media and share a story about the product. Monitoring every aspect of the purchase experience could possibly give marketing manager insights into what the customer is thinking. Once the pattern of behavior is established, marketing messages could be formulated to help guide the purchasing decision. If the marketing research is not fully understood, or one element of behavior is overlooked, it is possible that the marketing message could miss the mark. For example, if marketer miss the reason why a consumer makes a purchase, talking to other reasons to use the product would not sway a consumer to purchase because it would not touch on the individuals intended use. . Marketing research is a necessity to a product introduction and advertising. However, fully understanding the meaning of the research is vital to product success.Response-80 wordWe do not live, or exists in a vacuum, for when we are watching, TV, the TV is watching us. As James Russo (vice president of global consumer insight) put it they want to get as close to the people as they possibly can, so they can better advise their clients, after the response and attitude that they are observing, you see that what is Nelson does. In fact Nelson has been around since 1923, so it appears that they should have a good handle, on the ins and outs of consumer behavior. Nelson the objective, if you gain much information at all about the clientèle`s viewing habits along with buying habits as well. What motivates them what moves them. This information is gathered, it has been gathered for quite some time, and passed on to Nielsen`s clients, when turned can provide better programming as well as more substantive issues for those it services. Not necessarily as another governmental control, but a means by which to provide better products for their viewing audience. It makes sense to know how your money is being spent and where it is going.Q-180 wordWatch "Zappos: Competitive Strategy." Response-80 wordThe video on Zappos was an interesting take on how a company can developed a theme for competitive strategy. I live in Las Vegas and know of the Zappos Company well. The founder, Tony Shay, is very involved in the Las Vegas economy. Mr. Shay has moved the Zappos business to the old City Hall building within the last two years. He has brought the business into an area that may have felt the economic impact of the city hall moving into a new location. Another thing that Zappos gets attention for in the local Las Vegas market is how they treat employees. Zappos allows employees to be themselves, decorate their cubical in any way they want. The company provides lunch for employees on a daily basis. The annual town halls are like a party for employees. All the efforts of treating employees above and beyond pushes the mantra to treat the customer above and beyond. I would think that most Zappos employees enjoy their job. That enjoyment comes through with the way they engage the customer. Mr. Shay has established a goal of outstanding customer service to help separate the Zappos brand from the competitors. He has found that great customer service starts with employees. Therefore, to get the best out of his employees, he treats the staff like he wants them to treat the customer.Response-80 wordHappy customers and happy employees are the core values. They will do anything and everything to make their customers happy, with no limits on how to make that customer happy. Finding the right people to hire to make these goals happen is also the key, not everyone is cut out to be a customer service representative. In addition to making their customers happy, Zappos also allows the work environment to be as relaxed as possible, making them happy which in return makes their customers happy. By Zappos giving up the 25% of revenue they have been able to keep customers long term who continue to purchase their items and in return refer people to their site. Q-300 wordhttps://books.google.co.in/books?id=iT4WAAAAQBAJ&pg=PA488&lpg=PA488&dq=%22Mando:+Inventory+Management+and+More%22+and&source=bl&ots=Kk9V-tyYrG&sig=1f-B7sfpSuZmykqqgBbTbGcbGU0&hl=en&sa=X&ei=9AgNVdyxFMi3uQSU6YLgBg&ved=0CCIQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22Mando%3A%20Inventory%20Management%20and%20More%22%20and&f=falseRead Chapter 10 Case #2, "Mando: Inventory Management and More" on pages 488-489 of your text.  Complete the corresponding Discussion Questions and Critical Thinking Questions.Q-350 wordDiscussion Questions:1. How would you use the information in this case to improve your chances? What parts of your education would you point out in an interview as being especially helpful to them?Response- 100 wordDiscussion Questions: 1.      What are the three data items that your school’s top administration would like to forecast? Would a database such as VUB’s and similar report-building capabilities help it forecast them? Why or Why not?In a school management system the top administration looks for:Generating an interactive repots:·         Generating an interactive report that you could understand about progression in the year-wise any students admission and also display how admission is affected in the current year compare to the previous year how it could be improved, whether any revision to be made in fee structure or not. All the said parameters are discussed as an interaction between the staff and the management.·         A graphical report that is a pictorial representation of data (treasure of a company) is generated to understand precisely and clearly in knowing the comparison between the pros and cons of the progression towards admission fee structure and syllabus (CBSC, State board and Matriculation).·         A tabular form report: A tabular form reports, since the tabular form is commonly available to all representation for ease of understanding. It is used in the schools to clearly understand the financial progression and comparison of fees, student’s admissions and revised syllabus and staff recruitment and qualification. The data is maintained and comparison can be made efficiently through tabular reports.A database such as VUB is used to maintain all the above said data in a server. Surely it will help in the above said ways in developing schools top management. Thus, the above data items that are considered as a tool for schools help in finding the progression.2.      If any user can create the reports that he or she need using SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services, why would VUB bother creating standard reports for all its branches? All organization need an efficient database for maintaining data. Now a day in most of the company, for maintaining more the 75GB of raw data of their company, they are using only SQL Server databases. Even through it is like that, there is no proper structure and quality for the underlying data to meet the requirement of the bank.VUB is an efficient database and reporting services that favors the need for all branches in the following ways.·         It supports 100 users by 2012 and in the year end it supports 2000 users·         It allows interactive, tabular, graphical and free form of reports.·         Render reports created by using VUB in MS Word, MS Excel·         It can monitor risk management portfolios, track client behavior and examine key.·         It offers services to create Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) or data-cubes·         It can be able to maintain more than 60 GB of data·         Better identify, extract and analyze business data·         Meanwhile VUB uses SAS to generate liquidity forecasts to efficiently generate net interest income for this VUB had to obtain support from it·         Thus, VUB for the above stated requirements it bother creating standard reports for all branches.Critical Thinking Questions:1.      Microsoft SQL Server 2012 meet VUB’s needs. Other software firms offer similar reporting products. Some might meet other users’ needs better than SQL Server 2012. List at least five criteria you would use as a manager in a company making a software selection to choose one of them.Criteria to be used in selecting software:·         Software that is more user friendly: Suppose a fresh candidate is appointed as an employee in a bank (example) without getting help from others he can manage it.·         Meets Company’s timely expected requirement: the application that can generate all types of report such as crystal report, data report and tabular reports in time.·         Generate customized statistical reports: if we want to know last year report or year-wise report it can be selected and be able to filter and view within a few seconds. A complete statistics is taken reports are generated and compared it with current year, month and day with previous year, month and day.·         Software that consumes less memory size: The application which we opt to use must work efficient and reliable meaning consumes less memory storage and execution so that the data more than 100 GB of data can be maintained and protected with in time.·         Knowing financial status of the company: Using the chosen software, it is very useful and must be easy to know the current profit level and fund coming into company by foreign tie ups and local tie ups. So the software must play as a tool for cost estimation and also a better effort estimation model. Meanwhile it can judge the labor needed for the completing the assigned work. Thus, the above factors contribute excellent software for a company.2.      Today job search is an important criteria in everyone’s career. If a person is applying to a job in VUB, first of all he/she will introduce about himself/herself and family, then highlight the main objective what he/she wants to become? And then express potential skill in the following points which are given below that helps to improve the chances,Potential skills that count for selection in the interview·         Highlight problem solving skills·         Express knowledge in programming skills·         Demonstrate the need for financial software applications·         Express skills in storage databases such as SQL Server 2012 and MySQL·         Add specialized skills in programming languages such as dot net frame work. C, C++ and Java and how these languages is going to manipulate all the backend databases such as SQL Server 2008, 2012 and my SQL.·         Tell about ORACLE 10G and its usage in maintaining statistical reports of a company·         Express that how all the above mentioned factors will contribute in analyzing reports periodically to predict pros and cons of company’s profit in developing the business potential abilities of the company.Response-100 wordTop of FormDiscussion Questions:1. What are three data items that your school's top administration would like to forecast? Would a database such as VUB's and similar report-building capabilities help it forecast them? Why or why not?I can really only assume, but Top Administration, I guess would want to forcast, 1 - Student enrollment; 2 - Faculty numbers: how many, what subjects, where; 3 - Income.  A database like VUB's would help forcasting, but there is always room for error.  It would also depend on how much information the database will receive.  If they are "going forward" only, then it won't really help to forcast until it gets 2 years of data.  After that they will be able to see the trends.2. If any user can create the reports that he or she needs using SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services, why would VUB bother creating standard reports for all its branches?Just because I can create my own reports, doesn't mean they will reflect the same information as other people's reports.  Report standardization helps a company see the same information, in the same/equal way.  It also ensures all of the necessary information is on the report.  I could run a report that is similar, but I may have forgotten to include something, and make my branch's decision off of different information, which could be wrong. Critical Thinking Questions:1. Microsoft SQL Server 2012 meet VUB's needs. Other software firms offer similar reporting products. Some might meet other users' needs better than SQL Server 2012. List at least five criteria you would use as a manager in a company making a software selection to choose one of them.1 -  How long is the software going to be viable?  Is it something that may work and have full support now, but in 3 years?, 5 years? When will it become obsolete, and we'll have to move everything over to a new software?  In some instances Trending takes several years to really get a good picture.2 - What is the purchase cost, and the upkeep cost?  Is it only a good deal now, because the support / maintenance will be very expensiveas we go along? Will my staff end up having to spend alot of time babysitting?3 - What are the features of the software? Will it do all of the things I know it needs to do right now?4 - Is it customizable? As time goes on, will my staff be able to write custom views and reports, or will we be limited?5 - How will it benefit my company?  Will it make the business itself more profitable?2. Suppose you were applying for a job at VUB. How would you use the information in this case to improve our chances? What parts of your education would you point out in an interview as being especially helpful to them?I would be sure to include my experience with databases, specifically SQL.  I would use this class as a basis for saying how I understood the need for the benefits of database reporting.  I would also bring up the five things to think about when making the software selection.  I think I would also expound on the 100% online classes Baker offers, and the experience I gained from using them for my entire degree program.  Reply Quote Email AuthorBottom of FormMessage ReadMark as UnreadMessage Not FlaggedSet Flag10 hours agoSTEPHANIE DIEDERICHS RE: Discussion and Critical Thinking Questions for Seminar Five - Answer the following question on or before SaturdayRE: Discussion and Critical Thinking Questions for Seminar Five - Answer the following question on or before SaturdayCOLLAPSETop of FormParent PostDiscussion Questions:1. What are three data items that your school's top administration would like to forecast? Would a database such as VUB's and similar report-building capabilities help it forecast them? Why or why not?I would think that three of the data items the top administration would like to forecast would be student enrollment, their net income, and staff required to operate the school. I am sure that a database with similar report-building capabilities would help them forecast this data, however, I don’t know the cost of this database. If a database of similar capabilities might be too costly for some schools.2. If any user can create the reports that he or she needs using SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services, why would VUB bother creating standard reports for all its branches?Standardizing reports make the functionality of the entire company more compatible. This way even if other branches prefer another method they can create their own but also use the standard reports. So the headquarters can have and understand the information that they need for their evaluations. I remember when I worked for a franchise store for my internship, they had the corporate required reports and then they had their own for their use and practices.Critical Thinking Questions:1. How would you use the information in this case to improve your chances? What parts of your education would you point out in an interview as being especially helpful to them?I would study up on the software that they use and I would try to get a first-hand experience with the software. I would point out my experience and education with finance and software. I would point out my adaptability in software and programs since they are thinking about updating software. I think I would also bring up the importance of systems in business.Bottom of FormQ-180 wordMonitoring, implementation, and evaluation are critical tools in strategic decision making. Discuss the importance of implementation and monitoring in problem solving.Response-80 wordThis would be one of the most concerning to me but it's only based upon my personal experiences at work.  We have switched servers three times in the 1 1/2 years I have been at my job and each time it messes something up with my payroll software.  For example, it used to take almost 45 minutes for our check printing software to load-we switched servers and this was fixed but then we had a new issue.  The new issue was that AFTER our checks printed, it always kicked us out of the system before everything posted so we had to reboot and then re-post.  We just switched servers again and now we no longer get kicked out of the system after printing but my printer is constanty changing and my reports constantly freeze up and don't read correctly.  You would think that the payroll department was important enough that they would want to ensure that we can do our jobs effeciently and in a timely manner but no.  Our in-house IT department says that it is the software that keeps messing up (I'm very very sure that it's not) and when we call the support line for our software, they insist it is because of the servers that they keep switching us to."Some details illustrating why the change is needed"--- This one I have great detail for (above)!   I wish it was so easy as to provide some examples and suggestions as to why and how we could go about trying to make a change.Response-70 wordA company has to see were and why they need a change in a process. Also, they have to know how they are going to address the change to manager or employees and then they will have to request feedback. By asking for feedback this will allow any small problems to addressed. I also think the company has to have a plan, for example have a test market before changing the process. In the test market the company will be able to collect data to see what will work and what will not.Currently in my we are offering a promotions that other stores are not. The company used certain stores to preform this and we are required to prove feedback and the company is all reviewing how are sales in these departments are doing. Q-250 wordClass, place your Discussion Question assignments here.Response-80 wordChapter 112.  Net flow will show the final amount whereas cash flow will show day to day accurate amounts.  Cash flow takes into considerations things such as payments made towards credit whereas net flow will only show when the credit has been paid in full (Ehrhardt & Brigham, 2013). Because of this, project analysis needs a day to day amount to accurately know what the businesses finances are.4.  Sunk costs are not used because they are spent money regardless of outcome (Erhardt & Brigham, 2013).  Opportunity cost and externalities cost should be included however because they effect the cash flow because they are not prepaid things they are instead things to be paid on or things that did not get paid in full.Chapter 122.  Accounts payable, accrued wages, accrued taxes, common stock6.  A. -  B. 0 C. -  D. 0  E. + F. +ReferencesEhrhardt, M. & Brigham, E. Operating cash flows show a negative outflow of cash for asset purchases, where accounting income shows these outflows as depreciation (Ehrhardt & Brigham, 2014, p. 439). Cash flows are able to be spent, whereas accounting profits are not. This is why cash flows are viewed over accounting profits. It is also explicitly stated that when looking at capital budgeting, a project’s net cash flow is relevant, not the accounting income.11-4            Sunk costs are money that was previously lost and is no longer recoverable. These are not incremental costs, which makes them irrelevant in capital budgeting analysis (Ehrhardt & Brigham, 2014, p. 440). Sunk costs will not be effected by the decision to invest in the capital project. Opportunity costs are costs that will be incurred when the company decides to go forward with the project, meaning these costs should be included when looking at the cost of a project. Externalities are costs incurred as a result of a project. This means that if the company decides to go forward with the project, the externalities will also have to be addressed.12-2Accounts payable                       X                            Mortgage bonds                    Notes payable to banks                                             Common stock                X    Accrued wages                          X                             Retained earnings                  Accrued taxes                            X    12-6a.       Dividend payout ratio increased         0                                                b.      Decision to pay all suppliers on delivery for rapid payment discounts          +c.       Begin offering credit to customers     +d.      Profit margin eroded by increased competition   +e.       Manufacturing plants are sold for cash, then contract signed to purchase goods created by that plant from the purchaser                --f.       Firm negotiates a new contract with its union that lowers labor costs with no effect on output                                                       -- ReferenceEhrhardt, M., & Brigham, E.
