Instructions:While viewing one or more movies or television programs that portray a relationship between a man and a woman, take notes. Compare the relationship and roles in the program you have viewed to concepts and findings described in the chapter. Listed below are questions to help guide your analysis. Explain your answers fully.

-Describe any examples of instrumental or expressive behavior. Did these fit traditional gender-role patterns?

-Explain any examples of androcentrism that were present in the story or characters.

-How did the characters' attitudes and behaviors in regard to sexuality compare or contrast to the gender patterns in sexual attitudes and behavior that are listed in the chapter?

-Did the program portray socialization of gender roles? How so? Describe examples of any of the following in regard to gender-role socialization: punishment and reinforcement, observational learning, self-socialization.

-Review the section on the media as a source of gender-role socialization. In what ways did the programming that you viewed compare or contrast with specific trends described in this section of the chapter?

-Looking at Role Expectations for Males and Problems with the Male Role, were any of these demonstrated in the program that you viewed?

-Looking at Role Expectations for Females and Problems with the Female Role, were any of these demonstrated in the program that you viewed?

-In what ways did any of the characters demonstrate alternatives to traditional gender roles, such as androgyny or gender-role transcendence?

-How did the characters provide examples of any of the differences in communication styles that Tannen describes as occurring between men and women?
