Week 5 Discussion - The EU, particularly its monetary woes

Week 5 Discussion  

Question #1: The EU, particularly its monetary woes, is in the news quite a bit recently. The authors describe how monetary policy is a key feature of the European Union. Why do you think that the EU has had problems with the debts of its member states?

Question #2: In the United States, we are particularly concerned about our sovereignty. The authors suggest that connection between the people and the EU Council government is not particularly well formed. Why is this?

Question #3: Why are many countries in Eastern Europe (and other bordering regions) enthusiastic about joining the EU? Take a look at the EU website and list a few countries that have begun the EU ascension process. Do you think that this is wise for the original EU members to accept them?
