To prepare for your Discussion:

Explore the following site, and begin the process of building or expanding your professional network:

Connect with other Walden students, staff, and alumni by considering joining one of the Facebook groups available:

Then, think about any other networking you have already done through sites like LinkedIn or through other professional, community, or social networking organizations.

By Day 3

Post some proposed steps for building and maintaining a strong professional network, including an examination of the merits of doing so. Be sure to include the following:   

What are some benefits you can gain by developing your professional network? How can you be a benefit to others through professional networking? In other words, what are some ways to develop a mutually beneficial professional network?

Do you feel that professional networking is worth the effort?

What are some steps you can take to create and/or expand your professional network? Once you establish a professional network, what are some things you can do to sustain and grow your networking efforts?

Refer to the Week 7 Discussion Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this grading rubric to assess your work.

Read some of your colleagues’ postings.

By Day 5

Respond to two or more of your colleagues’ posts in one or more of the following ways:

Share an insight from or draw a connection to your colleague’s feelings on what developing their professional network can do for them or on whether professional networking is worth the effort.

Consider your colleague’s examination of how they could benefit others through professional networking. Do you feel like you would benefit from what they have to offer? If so, share it with your colleague and explain why.

Provide a suggestion on some alternate or additional steps your colleague could take to create, expand, or sustain their professional network.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.
