Description

COLLEAGUE’S POSTING

Leaders Produce Leaders and Managers Produce Followers.

Unlike chemistry or algebra where a right answer often exists management and leadership are fluid and subjective. An early management scholar, Mary P. Follett characterized management as “the art of getting things done through the efforts of other people according to Lloyd & Aho (2020).

Management has four main functions. Planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Planning is the systematic process of making decisions about goals and activities the organization will pursue. Organizing is the process of assembling and assigning resources to achieve goals, according to Lloyd & Aho (2020). Leading is getting members of the organization on board with the plan and controlling is installing processes to guide, monitor and make changes to plan as needed. Management to me is more reactive than proactive.

A leader is one who selects, trains, equips, and influences one or more people to willingly and enthusiastically expend spiritual, emotional, and physical energy in a coordinated effort to achieve the organizational mission and objectives according to (Top-Ranking Christian College (Online & Virginia) | Regent University, n.d.).

Leaders can articulate a roadmap to motivate others to focus their efforts on achieving the desired goals. They also can get extraordinary achievement from ordinary people by creating a vision and a sense of community to inspire others to greatness according to Saudi Med J. 2016.
