How to select computer workstation carts

Introduction. This is a practice assignment for using a human factors tool. Pretend you are on an evaluation team to select computer workstation carts (often called computer on wheels or workstation on wheels). Think about the items for evaluation to make the carts better suited for health care workers.

Expectations.

1. Write an initial list of 3-5 evaluation items before reading the "checklist" below.

Hint: You can first develop a list of tasks associated with computer workstation carts, and then think about the human factors involved: fatigue, mental workload, expected human errors, and steps involved in using the carts.

2. Modify the list after reading an "ergonomics checklist" developed by a human factors expert (link below). Remember human factors science is sometimes referred to as ergonomics.
