Identifying Waste

Instructions:

Think about the clinical environment where you work or one in which you previously worked.

Identify opportunities for waste reduction. Consider the following:

Setting: administrative, operational, clinical

During Disaster Preparedness or Event Management (Such as current SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic)

Suggest process changes to improve the situation.

Part 1: Write a 175-word communication to frontline staff and nurse leaders explaining your recommendations. Format using Executive Summary (Must use UOPX sample format. See example - samples below).

Sample-Example Executive Summary [See page 2. You paper must look exactly like the example].

Part 2: Develop a 7- to 10-slide presentation for your department [The title slide and reference slides do not count] with speaker notes on each slide. Cite each slide speaker notes or slide (information) as applicable using APA citation format.

Executive Summary

The purpose of an executive summary is to summarize a report. Executive summaries are written for executives who most likely do not have time to read the complete document. Therefore, the executive summary must cover the major points and be detailed enough to mirror the content yet concise enough for an executive to understand the substance without reading the entire report.

An executive summary differs from an abstract. Readers use an abstract to decide whether to read the complete document. They read an executive summary to obtain information without having to read the report in full.

 The executive summary should be written as a document that can stand on its own and is usually written on one or two pages, depending on the length of the report. It restates the purpose of the report and describes any results, conclusions, or recommendations made in the report so that the reader understands the reasons for the conclusion or recommendations. Acronyms, symbols, and abbreviations must be written out. Tables and figures in the report should not be referred to by number in the executive summary.

 The audience for an executive summary is receptive to the message, so the writer should assume that the audience wants to know and understand the message. It is written in a formal tone using an impersonal style and eliminating first person pronouns (I, we, our, etc.).

 Use the following guidelines when writing an executive summary:

• State clearly the purpose of the report.

• Present the major points in the same order they are written in the report.

• Summarize the results, conclusions, or recommendations made in the report.

• Write headings, as needed, for clarity, but word headings differently from the headings used in the report.

• Format the executive summary the same way as the complete report.

Following is an Executive Summary of a report prepared by Sonoma Consultants for Jones Williams, a stock brokerage firm that specializes in long-term, stable investments for an upscale client base. Sonoma conducted a study of the most efficient means to recruit new investment clients to the firm.

Leadership Change Project Framework

Assignment Content

Leaders seek out change opportunities regularly. Innovation, critical thinking, and decision making are key to making an impact on an organization. This assignment is designed to help you look at aspects of your own clinical practice and become a change agent in your organization. Use your current or past experience to identify a change project to implement.

Step 1: Select a topic [Process, policy, procedure, disaster management [Pandemic/Epidemic], and such, for a propossed change project.

Review the following resources for potential change topic or process ideas. On your paper, you can opt to propose implementation of on of these:

Step 2: Identify the context for your change (Where will the change prioject occur? Who will it impact?).

Describe the setting where the change will take place. For example, clinical, insurance, home health, or public and community.

Explain who is affected: patients, nurses, leadership, and other stakeholders in the organization.

Step 3: Review the literature to find possible solutions and evidence to address your topic (Support your actions with evidence).

Research sources that guide evidence-based practice to improve outcomes related to your selected topic.

Find a minimum of three peer-reviewed articles directly related to addressing your change topic.

Step 4: Create a draft implementation plan [Action plan described within your paper or presentation].

Summarize each article to explain how the evidence you gathered will help address your change topic.

Explain how you could use the information in the research to carry out the change in your identified setting.

Format Options: You can format your assignment as either:

A. An 700- to 1,050-word APA formatted paper. Read, study, use APA sample paper as a guide to format your work.

or

Collaborate with your learning team to develop 10 ways to include leadership in your daily activities [May use current pandemic scenario]. Use the information/models you have learned about throughout the course.
