 The purpose of this assignment is to have you perform a critique of the way gender operates/is communicated/is enforced in an event that is happening in our lives. Pick something CONTEMPORARY from the newspaper, TV, or social media and make an argument about what type of gendered communication is occurring in the “story.” Use the book to support your claims about that which you are analyzing. Explain your position by backing up your claims with scholarly evidence and use articles from the BCC library (2 scholarly articles). The goal is to convince the reader to adopt your perspective about the gendered communication. What is this “story” telling us about the larger discourses surrounding power, gender, race, class, ability, etc? For this assignment you will be evaluated on your writing skills, your attention to persuasive appeals, and your use of evidence (focusing on particular parts of the “story” and relating them back to the theory from the book and external articles). This assignment should contain an introduction, body, conclusion, a cover page and reference page all in APA, and will combine knowledge of all concepts discussed this semester.
