Assessment 2 General notes for students:

The overall objective of assessment 2 is to write a strategic HR plan for your organisation of choice. Through developing this plan you need to demonstrate you can undertake the outlined 5 tasks and hence offer a report that details the steps taken. An associated document “Key points for the Report” can also be used to assist you.

In sum, structure your report accordingly and start with a title page then contents page. In the report offer an introduction that provides an overview of your business (this helps set the scene). In this section note the type of business, industry, mission, vision, how the organisation is structured, how many staff are employed etc. From here you may then wish to have headings for the set 5 tasks:

1. Strategic analysis - complete a PEST and SWOT analysis for the overall business - but this may highlight certain HR aspects from an internal perspective (i.e., more in regards to strengths and weaknesses in the SWOT analysis) . You could place this analysis in the body of your report or in the appendices but you will still need to offer commentary around them - noting key points in regards to challenges etc going forward for the business.

2. HR linkage to business plan - here you should offer some commentary about the link with the above to HR and why an HR plan may be needed to help address challenges highlighted and how HR will be structured to achieve this (i.e., who will work within the HR team, who will take charge of the HR plan and who will work with the respective departments / CEO etc., to make sure it happens)

3. HR functions - you need to define five key HR functions that the HR Manager/department or respective person is responsible for within the organisation and critically evaluate these defined functions - good and bad aspects (perhaps if you are unsure perhaps you can make contact with respective stakeholders to identify but if this is not feasible you may need to make some assumptions here). You should, however, note any ethical considerations regarding these functions.

4. HR Challenges and Techniques - from the above functions (and above steps) identify four key things that are the most urgent and important thing for the HR team/person etc., to work on in regards to offering some form of improvement for the business (perhaps in systems, policies, etc). Discuss these and justify why they are important and what are options for how these can be addressed.

5. HR plan - table an HR plan from the above with a table that includes columns such as objective, strategy, resources, who is responsible etc (look at the example offered in the tutorials and is listed in your subject outline). This plan really should sum up in table form what you may have identified in point 4 above (this can be included in the appendices).

You should also offer a conclusion, recommendations and references section in your report.
