The mass Tom's whole leg (i.e. thigh, lower leg, and foot) is 12 kg. Tom's leg angularly accelerates 50 rad/s2 around the hip joint in the transverse plane during a roundhouse kick.

The radius of gyration of the leg around the axis of rotation for this kick is 0.18 m.

(a) How large is the torque that produces this acceleration?

(b) If the moment arm for this group of muscles is 0.05 m, how much muscle force is required to produce this movement?
