This week our goals are to identify important information systems and to describe methods for overcoming barriers to the adoption of HIS technologies. Incentives and penalties can be one way of motivating doctors and organizations to overcome such barriers.
Investigation 1 (Option 2) - The Health Information Exchange (HIE)
Research the Health Information Exchange (HIE) and be prepared to answer the following:
- What is the purpose of an HIE?
- What opportunities can you demonstrate with the advancement of these organizations?
- Can they cross geographic regions and enhance the care delivery process?
- If so, how and why?
Be sure to read Chapter 4 before you begin.
