Note: You must seek approval on your specific health policy issue and approved by your faculty before you begin working on this assignment. This 15-20-page evidence-based paper should be on current policy or proposed legislation.

Project Task: Construct an overview.

Construct an overview to introduce the identified health policy initiative or issue and focus on local, state or federal populations

The overview should include the following:

Objective for paper's purpose

Overview of specific health policy or issue

A detailed description of the legislators or agencies that are involved in the specific health policy and how it has been funded or allocated to improve health care practices and outcomes

A detailed description on how the health policy will influence and affect the targeted population

Provide rationale for why this specific health policy topic is important and needed

Week 5 Project

Written assignment for Legislator Communication is due:

This written assignment requires the student to investigate his/her local, state and federal legislators and explore their assigned committees and legislative commitments. The student is expected to investigate current and actual legislative initiatives that have either passed or pending approval by the house, senate or Governor’s office. The student will draft a letter to a specific legislator and offer support or constructive argument against pending policy or legislation.  The letter must be supported with a minimum of 3 evidence based primary citations.

Week 8 Project

Forward the topic of the health policy paper to faculty at the end of Week Two,

Health policy unfolds daily and drives clinical practice in the US. The student will investigate current policies or legislation underway for a specific health-related issue. The Student will develop a scholarly APA formatted paper supported by evidence. The policy paper rubric:

Introduction to population or problem (incidence, prevalence, epidemiology, cost burden etc)

Description of how the policy is intended for a specific population, program or organization

Specific legislators involved in the policy development and dissemination

Identify the role of the APRN in assisting with the policy or refuting the policy – this requires the evidence to support opinion, ideas and/or concepts.

Discuss how the policy influences clinical practice and is used to promote best outcomes

Examine how the policy can be used by the inter-professional team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for the specific population

Conclusion – summarize findings

APA format – use of primary peer-reviewed references as much as possible
