Overview: You will interview a male-born or male-identified individual and explore how they navigate our society as male. Instructions: You should draft 5-6 interview questions that focus on the following:
• Their childhood and what messages they received on gender
• How they currently identify and see themselves fitting into traditional norms of masculinity
• Challenges they have faced being male-born or male-identified
• How they define healthy masculinity
Requirements: After the interview write a 4-5 page paper including the following:
• An overview on masculinity in dominant U.S. culture, defining toxic masculinity, gender roles/norms, and the troubling link between hypermasculinity and violence.
• Major takeaways from your interview (keep your interviewee’s identity private). Compare their experience to what you have read regarding masculinity and boys’/mens’ experiences navigating gender roles and norms.
• At least three outside resources should be used to support your arguments and to compare against your interviewee’s experiences.
