DQ1 Evaluating the Structure of Research Articles

Using the Guidelines for Critical Analysis of a Research Report (PDF), review assigned study articles and answer the following questions regarding the specific research problems mentioned in each. Use a bulleted format list for your responses as a group, and feel free to link to related research as needed to help justify your answers to each of the questions below.

Guiding Questions for Assigned Articles:

What is the problem being studied?

Is the researcher(s) clear about what is being studied?

Is the problem clearly identifiable? Is it researchable?

Is the problem significant to nursing practice? To theory development?

What is the theoretical framework for a quantitative study. if any?

What is the philosophical underpinning for a qualitative study, if any?

Working as a team, provide thoughtful responses to the questions above. (Use the designated discussion board to communicate with your team members.) When you have decided on your final answers, elect one member of your team to be the “responder,” who will post the answer set to the discussion board on behalf of the entire team.

As a group, post your initial answers by the end of Day 4 and provide one additional comment to another groups posting. Be sure to respond to all comments on your thread by no later than Day 7 of this week.

DQ2 Choosing Your Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Paper Topic (Individual Discussion)

Complete your individual response by the end of Day 4. In addition to your original response, you will need to post at least two replies to other classmate posts in the Group Discussion as well as respond to all posts on your original response before the end of Day 7.

After reading your assigned research article and thinking about areas of nursing research that you'd like to explore further, create a discussion thread that lists your potential topic and whether or not you'd like to approach the topic from a qualitative or quantitative perspective. The purpose of this discussion board is to not lock you into a specific area of research, but rather to allow your classmates to serve as brainstorming partners in developing your topic further. At the conclusion of the week, you will need to submit your proposed research topic to your instructor for final approval.
