CM206 Interpersonal Communications
Unit 2 Seminar
Attending live Seminars is highly recommended, as it is important to your academic success. The Seminar allows you to review the important concepts presented in each unit, discuss work issues in your lives that pertain to these concepts, ask your instructor questions, and chat in real time with your fellow classmates. In this course, there are graded Seminars in Units 1 through 9. You must either attend and participate in the live Seminar or complete the Seminar alternative assignment in order to earn points for this part of the class.
In the Seminar for Unit 2, you will discuss influences on self-concept and how one’s self- concept can influence communication, as well as how you can work to ensure an accurate perception of yourself as well as those with whom you engage.
Please come to Seminar prepared to discuss the following:
How are your identity and social views defined, sustained, and reinforced by the cultures within which you immerse your life?
What is a strong value, belief, or attitude that you have that you learned from your family while growing up?
What are some general worldviews that you hold? Where did you learn them? How do they impact your perception?
In what ways can you ethically influence the self-concept of others?
What guidelines can you put in place to help you improve your perceptions? How might this improve your communication?
To earn Seminar credit for this unit, complete one of the following options below:

You are strongly encouraged to fulfill your Seminar requirement through this option if possible. Many students find the synchronous discussion very helpful because the instructor will clarify the unit information and your classmates may pose questions that you also have about the material.

Before answering the questions, review the Seminar recording for information missed. Seminar Option 2 postings need to be in Microsoft Word and incorporate the text material. Your response to the Seminar questions should be composed in complete sentences and paragraphs and be at least 350 words in length. Be sure to answer all questions and include references to earn your Seminar points. Please refer to the Seminar rubric for grading details and contact your instructor if you have questions about anything covered in the Seminar.
The Option 2 Assignment should be completed and submitted to the Unit 2 Seminar Dropbox before the unit deadline (Tuesday night).
