2. Your project is a research based project where you will develop a white paper on a project
management topic. The paper should be no more than 5 pages, single spaced, 12 font. The
objective of your white paper is to choose a product or service offering and describe the
following in a narrative that flows like a case study. It is critical to note that this case MUST be
based on real world information as you will base your discussion around information found in
your research (for example, company websites, popular press articles like Forbes, Harvard
Business Review, etc…). Use only reliable sources of information. Do not use sources such as
Wikipedia. You may chose a product/service related to your current job but even in this case you
are required to incorporate external sources in validating your personal information. You may
find it helpful to research a competitor company to benchmark against and find interesting
contrasts. The following are the questions/sections that your case should incorporate.
Brief background of the company that provides the product or service (you may want to describe
the company’s mission statement and how this product/service aligns with it)
Brief summary of the product/service
What does a project team for this product/service delivery look like? You can conjecture based
industry standards and locations of the company’s customers, manufacturing, etc….but again
you can use sources to help to justify your discussion.
Does this project team/organizational structure make sense?
What does a project lifecycle look like for this case?
What are the major sources of uncertainty as it pertains to costing or estimating?
What does quality mean in the context of this product/service? What are the critical
performance measures and how can they be tracked?
What are the biggest risks to success for this type of product or service offering? You should
discuss question in the context of the project’s phases.
Propose ways that these risks can be managed.
The white paper you are developing should conclude with the opportunities that you have
identified to improve the management of projects of this type. Discuss how you can use the
DMAIC (six sigma) framework to manage and implement this improvement.
You must include a reference section with at least 8 sources/citations.

Other tips:
All sources should be cited and numbered. You should cite the source by using a reference number
within the text for example, for the first reference in your reference list at the end of the sentence put
(1). Then in your reference list you can use either APA or MLA style.
