DQ 1 Negative Campaigning

Negative Campaigning. Campaigns often find themselves claiming they will not conduct negative campaigning, only to later engage in malicious negative campaigning when times get tough. Discuss whether you believe negative campaigning is:

1. Helpful or harmful to democracy and why?
2. Helpful or harmful to a candidate’s campaign and why?

Electoral College. The results of the 2000 Presidential election and brought to the forefront debates as to the fairness of the Electoral College system in American democracy. In 250 - 300 words, describe how the Electoral College system is both beneficial and harmful to American democracy. How do you think the Electoral College affects political behavior in the US?
