PICO(T) and Database Search Assignment

There are many healthcare related databases, and the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health (CINAHL) is one focused on nursing and health literature. In this class, you are free to access any database that contains the resources you need to complete assignments. You are required to include CINAHL among those databases searched. This exercise is to help you familiarize yourself with CINAHL and create your own EBSCO account.  

1. Create an EBSCO account and log into it.  

Instructions for creating EBSCO account: 

a. Through the HS/HSL website https://www.hshsl.umaryland.edu/,  go to the CINAHL database. See red circle below.

b. Click on “Sign in here” at the top right corner. Click on Sign Up. Fill in the information to create an account.

c. Once logged in, take a screen shot of the entire top right corner that includes your name, the words “Sign Out” and the HS/HSL logo. 

2. Conduct the search  

Instructions for providing evidence of search strategies:

a. Use the PICO question to help guide your search.

b. Design the search using the intervention, outcome of choice and Boolean operators

c. Search terms separately, them combine synonyms with OR, then combine the lists with AND

d. As you search for key words and combine them using various Boolean operators, please take screen shots showing the terms, Boolean operators if used and number of articles returned.

e. Identify 3 articles. At least one must be and intervention study
