PART B: Original Discussion Board for Module #1

Our Module #1 PART B: Original Discussion Board requires you to interview two people in your life and ask them questions about psychology, post a brief report about your interview, reflect on the interview while referring to our course readings and our course videos, and then reply to classmates' interview reports.  (This is not as much work as it might sound like.  Please carefully follow the instructions I provide below and it will likely go very smoothly.) :-)

PART B: Original Discussion Board for Module #1 has 4 pieces, A, B, C, & D (it's really not as bad as it sounds)  :-)

A.)  Research Interview: PART B: Original Discussion Board for Module #1 explores what comes to mind when people think about psychology.  For this project please interview 2 people in your life to find out what comes to mind for them when they think of psychology.  The interviews can be quite short. The interviews can be done in person, by phone, by text, however you prefer.  Pick 2 people in your life and ask each of them the following questions. This is an informal research project so feel free to ask follow-up questions or extra questions to get at the information.  You may want to take notes so that you can accurately remember, and later write about, what you learn. Be sure not to post/share anything that your interviewees would prefer be kept private.

Ask your interviewees these questions (or similar).

1. What is psychology?  
2. Is psychology a science? Why or why not? (try to get detail)
3. What kinds of things do psychologists study and research? And how do psychologists do their research?  What methods of research do psychologists use? Can you describe an example?
4. If you could give a 3 million dollar research grant to a team of psychologist, what would you ask the psychologist to research?  and why?

 B.  Write and post in our discussion area a short (about 500-800 words) summary of your research interview project.  Please tell us a little about who you interviewed--names are not necessary--what the some of the main responses to the 4 questions were, and what you found interesting about the project. (I'm thinking about a half a page in length for this part.)

C.  Tell us what our course readings and course videos say about Psychology and science.  In your discussion post, along with the summary of your interviews, also tell us what our course readings says about Psychology and science.  Do your best to relate your interviews to our course content from our readings and videos from Module 1.  Please be sure to include at least 2 terms of your choosing from our Module #1  Study Guide in your discussion.  Also, please explain, in your own words, each the two terms you choose.  Please underline or bold the terms you choose. :-)

D. Please post two Replies to classmates. (Reply Posts must be AT LEAST 150 words for full credit.)

Post all of the above into our Original Discussion Board for Module #1.
